RevBuddy: How It Started and What Problem It Solves for Hoteliers
From our experience in the hospitality space over the past few years, one thing kept repeating, regardless of the size of the hotel or its location.
A revenue manager opening three different Excel files just to understand how August performed. A boutique hotel owner keeping handwritten notes next to the laptop to remember what last year's ADR was for the same period. Someone else logging into Booking.com separately, then Webhotelier separately, trying to line up numbers that simply weren't speaking to each other.
The same pattern showed up on the other side too. People working in advertising and campaign management for hotels were facing the exact same problem: no clear picture of how the hotel they were promoting was actually performing. They were building campaigns without knowing which channel brought real value, which market was worth targeting, or whether the season was tracking better or worse than the year before.
It wasn't that the data was missing. There was more data than anyone could easily read.
The Problem Was Never a Shortage of Information
Every booking platform, every PMS, every channel manager exports its own reports, in its own format, with its own column names, its own logic. Making sense of it all requires either hours in Excel or an expensive revenue management system that most independent hoteliers have little reason to buy.
The result was almost always the same: decisions based on impression rather than a clear picture. "I think we did well this summer." "Booking.com probably brings us most of our bookings." Impressions that might have been correct, but nobody could confirm without hours of work.
That's Where RevBuddy Started
The idea was simple: what if a hotelier could upload the file they already have, the one they already download from their PMS every month, and within minutes see clearly how the season is going, with no formulas, no new system to learn, no cost?
Not another complicated revenue management tool. Something far more basic than that: a way to see your own data clearly.
What RevBuddy Does Today
That's what RevBuddy does today. You upload your export file, and you see ADR, occupancy, RevPAR, where your guests are actually coming from, which channel is genuinely making you money, how this season compares to last year. All automatically. All in your browser, with your data never going anywhere else.
For the hotelier, this means finally knowing whether the season was actually good or just felt good. For anyone managing advertising for a hotel, it means seeing which channel is worth the investment and which market delivers real returns, instead of planning campaigns in the dark.
Just the Beginning
This is only the beginning. Over the coming weeks we'll be sharing more about how RevBuddy works in detail and what's coming next, because there are several new features in progress that will make the picture of any hotel even clearer.
If you run a hotel, or work in hotel advertising, and recognise this scene with the scattered Excel files and the handwritten notes, we'd love for you to try RevBuddy for free.
It started as a simple observation. The problem is a common one. The solution had to be just as simple.
